Williams Fairey Brass Band Summer School
After a two-year absence, the world renowned Canford Summer School this year decided to relaunch its popular brass band residential course. The course is aimed at the accomplished brass player capable of performing in Championship or First section bands. The course focused on the training and performance practice associated with the skills of the Williams Fairey Band. Full rehearsals were combined with sectionals, workshops, clinics and master classes - the whole week culminating in a concert in the fabulous Layard Theatre at Canford School.
The experienced tutoring staff included Neil Hewson (Cornets and Horns) David Thornton (Euphoniums and Baritones) Gavin Saynor (Basses) and Nick Hudson (Trombones).

The musical direction was undertaken by Williams Fairey professional conductor James Gourlay.
A wide range of music for brass ensemble was studied throughout the week-long course and included original works by Rodney Newton, Percy Fletcher and Gilbert Vinter.
The concert at the end of the week's activities proved a great success and it has been confirmed that the Canford Brass Band Summer School will be taking place again in 2001.
